Pond Liner Installation & Repair in Kansas City

    Pond Liner Installation & Repair

EPDM rubber, reinforced PVC, and specialty liner installs and replacements — the foundation of every pond that lasts 30+ years.

Pond liner installation and replacement in Kansas City and Northwest Arkansas typically runs $1,500 to $12,000 depending on pond size, liner material (EPDM rubber, reinforced PVC, or concrete/gunite), fish handling, and site access. Freedom Stone + Pondscapes installs and replaces liners on residential and estate ponds across both markets.

Pond Liner Installation & Repair for Kansas City Pond Owners

The liner is the foundation of any pond. Get it right and the pond lasts 30 to 50+ years. Get it wrong and you're rebuilding within 5. Liner selection, underlayment, seaming, and edge treatment all matter more than most homeowners realize.

We install new liners in every pond we build and replace failing liners in ponds built by other contractors. Most failures we see are from thin liners, no underlayment, root punctures, or bad seaming at the waterfall weir.

Here's what we use, when replacement is worth it, and what the process looks like.

    What's Included

Every pond liner installation & repair visit covers the essentials your pond needs.

    EPDM Rubber Liner (45-mil)

The industry standard for residential and commercial ponds. 20+ year manufacturer warranty and 30–50 year real-world lifespan.

    Reinforced PVC Liner

Thinner but tear-resistant. Good for specific applications where fold flexibility matters more than raw thickness.

    Underlayment

Non-woven geotextile fabric under every liner to protect against roots, rocks, and settling.

    Seaming & Weir Detail

Factory-quality seam tape and boots at the waterfall weir and skimmer — the two most common failure points.

    Concrete or Gunite

Specialty option for formal architectural ponds where a rigid shell is required.

    Fish Hold During Replacement

Oxygenated holding tanks for the duration of a liner swap.

    Pricing Guide

General guidelines. Final pricing depends on pond size, condition, and access.

    Small Pond / Pondless Liner

    $1,500–$3,500

Under 100 sq ft. Full liner + underlayment + seaming.

    Standard Residential Replacement

    $3,500–$7,000

100–300 sq ft pond, fish hold included, rockwork reset.

    Large / Estate Replacement

    $7,000–$12,000+

300+ sq ft, complex rockwork, or difficult access.

Replacement pricing depends on pond size, existing rockwork, fish load, and site access. New builds fold liner cost into the total build quote.

    When Liner Replacement Is Needed

Visible tears or punctures. Water level dropping faster than evaporation accounts for (typically 1"–2" per week in summer is normal — anything faster is likely a leak). Root intrusion from mature trees that have grown near or under the pond over the years.

Age is the other big one. Liners installed 25+ years ago, especially thinner PVC or unbranded EPDM, are near end of life. Even without visible failure, they get brittle and one hard freeze or root push finishes them.

We can dye-test to locate a specific leak on ponds where the source isn't obvious, and quote either a targeted patch or a full replacement based on what we find.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Typical residential pond takes 3–5 days including drain, replacement, rockwork reset, and fish return.

For almost every residential and commercial pond, 45-mil EPDM. PVC has specific advantages for tight folds and prefab shapes but is thinner overall.

Quality 45-mil EPDM installed with underlayment routinely lasts 30–50 years. Cheaper liners, no underlayment, or exposed edges cut that dramatically.

Small punctures above the waterline can be patched with EPDM tape. Anything below waterline, at a seam, or at a weir should be professionally repaired.

Yes. We only use fish-safe grade EPDM and PVC. Automotive or roofing EPDM is not fish-safe and should never be used.

Yes. 45-mil EPDM carries a 20+ year manufacturer warranty against defects. Our workmanship warranty is separate.
